Polymer Clay: The Versatile Medium

Polymer Clay: The Versatile Medium
$675.00

Dates: Friday - Sunday, June 21 - 23 from 9:00 am-4:00 pm (12 pm - 1 pm break)
Fee: $675
Ages: 18+
Levels: All
Sessions: 3
Instructor: Jane Pellicciotto
Location: Schack Art Center, Studio 2

*Schack Member discounts do not apply to NWDC Courses.

Polymer clay is the perfect medium to explore a variety of surface treatments and forms. It’s a forgiving, affordable, and satisfying material to work with. It is also lightweight, requires simple tools, and not much workspace.

In this workshop, we’ll explore black-and-white image transfers, texturing, and markmaking in both uncured and cured clay, adding pigments and more. (Cane making and faux surfaces won’t be covered.) Participants will start on day 1 making a simple brooch to get familiar with the material and process. For the rest of the workshop, you can build on that idea, make additional wearable pieces, or explore small sculpture.

Throughout the workshop, weʻll cover proper conditioning of clay, mixing colors, curing (baking) clay, sanding/finishing, attaching parts, and adding jewelry findings. There will also be a focus on design decisions that turn your ideas into reality.

Polymer clay pieces can be added to other work or used in conjuction with other materials. Despite the focus on surface, we can also explore how to create 3-D work, such as wrapping clay around forms.

No polymer clay experience is necessary.

Student Supply List ( Please Bring)

  • Sketchbook

  • Pencil

  • Forming / Texturing Tools

  • Texturing Materials

  • Small Cookie Cutters
